Smart Home devices – 4 to watch

Smart home devices have traditionally been limited to automated blinds, A/V and media rooms, air conditioning, TVs, and lighting. As technology progresses,  start ups are focused on improving our home functionality and ease of living. Smart home devices are the way of the future, and although in Australia technology for smart home adaptation has been slow to catch on, here are 4 fantastic home products to watch while we move towards modernising our homes!

Created by a company called Silk Labs, this device is now up on KickStarter. Silk Labs call it “A beautifully designed, responsive, intelligent, and secure camera and hub. The eyes, ears, and brains of your modern household,” and we are inclined to agree!
Sense is a camera and smart home hub in one, which will help owners be able to keep track of home security through an encrypted connection on their smart phones. It also has the power to learn intelligently and adapt to the changing surrounds, as well as keeping track of unusual activity in the home. The developers have also ensured that the device will work with a wide range of connected devices, including lighting solutions such as Philips Hue and LIFX, sound systems like Sonos, home systems like the Nest thermostat, and more. If you’re interested in more information or would like to back this project, check out their Kickstarter Page here.

With the ability to speak to someone in the house from your phone (and video conference from home also), the device also offers a night vision camera with motion and sound detectors. They have also included a system to allow the orb to work in case the WIFI connection or internet stops, and allows for audio streaming and infrared control which is perfect for controlling A/C or media centers! This little beauty is easy to set up as well and a breeze to move around, so it makes for one heck of a great addition to your home! Click here to pre-order or to find out more.

Tesla have entered the automotive market in Australia with a bang, but one of their lesser known products is the life-changing Tesla Powerwall. With energy usage and sustainability conversations at an all time high, new homes and renovations will increasingly need to be “green” in their approach to energy consumption, and this may be the product to solve the solar challenge and make your home truly self sustaining. With a 6.4 kWh energy storage capacity, the Powerwall has been designed to power most homes during the evening using electricity generated by solar panels during the day, and larger homes can install multiple batteries. It’s an intriguing look at the future of solar and will help many home owners reduce their energy footprint significantly.Click here to find out more!
